Echoes of the Labyrinth
A downloadable game
Concept: Echoes of the Labyrinth is a solo journaling TTRPG inspired by the novel "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski using The Wretched game framework created by Chris Bissette. The player's character navigates an enigmatic, ever-changing house, attempting to understand its mystery, maintain sanity, and survive.
Gameplay: The game is played with a deck of playing cards, a six-sided die, a Jenga tower, a journal, and tokens (scraps of paper) representing hope. The character's journey and experiences are documented through daily journal entries prompted by card draws.
Prompt Tables: The game features four prompt tables themed after different elements: Architectural Changes, Unexplainable Phenomena, Psychological Struggles, and Discovery and Hope. Each card drawn corresponds to a specific prompt from these tables, creating unique, evolving gameplay.
Endgame: The game ends when either the deck of cards is exhausted, indicating the character has survived and navigated the labyrinth for a considerable time, when the Jenga tower collapses, symbolizing a major catastrophe in the house, or when the player runs out of hope tokens, signifying complete hopelessness. Alternatively, the game can also end if the player finds an exit key and successfully escapes.
Aim: The game's goal is not just survival but also crafting an engaging, immersive narrative about exploring the labyrinthine house and confronting its eerie phenomena and psychological challenges.
